Etymology[edit]

Uncertain, while suggested Latin haedulus or Ancient Greek τράγος (trágos) perhaps via Berber, absent in Andalusian Arabic and Maltese and maybe continues a term from the root ع ت ر (ʕ-t-r) whence e.g. عَتِيرَة (ʕatīra, goat used for sacrifice)
