From *kedim (clothes, clothing), from Proto-Turkic *ked- (to put on/wear clothes).

Cognate with Old Uyghur kedim (clothes); Tatar кием (kiyem), Kazakh киім (kiım), Kyrgyz кийим (kiyim), Southern Altai кийим (kiyim), Uzbek kiyim, Turkmen geýim, Turkish giyim (clothes, clothing), Bashkir кейем (keyem), etc.
