Etymology

Borrowed from a Nubian language. Most of the Nubian words found in Sudanese Arabic can be identified by the Nubian suffix ـق (-(V)g) or ـ‍ك (-(V)k). Compare سفروق (safarōg, “curved stick”). Beja m'are (sorghum) is likely a cognate.
