From Proto-Iranian *pačati, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *páčati, from Proto-Indo-European *pekʷ- (to cook, become ripe).[1]

Cognates with Mazanderani بپتن (bapeten), Baluchi پچگ (pačag, to fry, bake), Northern Kurdish pijandin, Yagnobi пухсак (puxsak).
