Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from Parthian 𐫐𐫓𐫀𐫗 (klʾn /⁠kalān⁠/, great, big; pure). Related to Tat kələ (great, big) and the Armenian toponym Կաղանկատոյք (Kałankatoykʻ, literally big habitation). The ultimate origin is uncertain.
