From Aramaic דֵּאבָא (dēʾḇā), from Proto-Semitic *ḏiʔb- (wolf); compare Arabic ذِئْب (ḏiʔb), Hebrew זְאֵב (z'év) and Akkadian 𒉡𒌝𒈠 (zībum, jackall).
