Etymology[edit]

From the older form ܥܵܢܵܐ (ˁānā), from Aramaic [Term?], from Proto-Semitic *ṣ́aʾn-. Compare Classical Syriac ܥܵܢܵܐ (ˁānā, flock (especially of sheep)), Turoyo ܥܘܳܢܐ (cwono, sheep).
