Etymology[edit]
Deemed a metathesis of *ܥܲܛܪܵܢܝܼܬܵܐ (ʿaṭrānīṯā) from ܥܰܛܪܳܢܳܐ (ʿaṭrānā, “cedar resin, pitch”) related to Arabic قَطْرَان (qaṭrān, “tar”).
