Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘁𑘽𑘑𑘻𑘯𑘲 (āṃghoḷī), 𑘁𑘑𑘳𑘯𑘲 (āghuḷī), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀅𑀁𑀕𑁄𑀳𑀮𑀺 (aṃgohali). Cognate with Gujarati અંઘોળ (aṅghoḷ).
