From Maharastri Prakrit *𑀆𑀅-𑀇𑀮𑁆𑀮-𑀅 (*āa-illa-a), from Sanskrit आगत (ā́gata, “come, arrived”). Cognate with Marathi आले (āle), Hindi आया (āyā).
