Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘏𑘨 (khara), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀔𑀭 (khara), from Sanskrit खर (khára, “rough, hard, solid, sharp”). Cognate with Gujarati ખરું (kharũ), Hindustani کَھرَا (kharā) / खरा (kharā), Sindhi کرو / खरो, Punjabi ਖਰਾ (kharā) / کَھرا (kharā), Odia ଖରା (khôra), Bengali খরা (khora), Assamese খৰ (khor).
