Borrowed from Classical Persian غرض (ğaraz), from Arabic غَرَض (ḡaraḍ). Compare Gujarati ગરજ (garaj), Hindi ग़रज़ (ġaraz), Punjabi ਗਰਜ਼ (garaz) / غَرض (ġarẓ), Bengali গরজ (goroj).
