Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀘𑀼𑀮𑁆𑀮𑀻 (cullī), 𑀘𑀼𑀮𑁆𑀮𑀺 (culli), from Sanskrit चुल्ली (cullī), borrowed from Dravidian; ultimately from Proto-Dravidian *col. Cognate with Bengali চুলা (cula).
