Etymology[edit]
Borrowed from Classical Persian ضبط (zabt), from Arabic ضَبْط (ḍabṭ). Compare Punjabi ਜ਼ਬਤ (zabat) / ضَبط (ẓabt̤), Bengali জব্দ (jobdo), Gujarati જપ્ત (japt), Marathi जप्त (j̈apta).
