Inherited from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀣𑁄𑀩𑁆𑀩 (*thobba) (compare Old Marathi 𑘞𑘻𑘤𑘚 (thobaḍa, insipid, tasteless; small), Sanskrit स्तुव (stuva, particular part of the head of a horse)). Compare Hindustani تھوبْڑَا (thobṛā) / थोबड़ा (thobṛā).
