From Proto-Indo-Iranian *HyátʰaH (as, like), from Proto-Indo-European *Hyós. Compare Avestan 𐬫𐬀𐬚𐬁 (yaθā) and Old Persian 𐎹𐎰𐎠 (y-θ-a /⁠yaθā⁠/).
