Semi-learned borrowing from Sanskrit शोभते (śóbhate). Doublet of सोहना (sohnā). Compare Gujarati શોભવું (śobhvũ), Marathi शोभणे (śobhṇe), Sindhi سوڀَڻُ / सोभणु, Punjabi ਸੋਭਣਾ (sobhṇā) / سوبھݨا (sobhṇā).
