Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀲𑀁𑀤𑁂𑀲 (saṃdesa) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-), from Sanskrit संदेश (saṃdeśa, “message”). Doublet of संदेश (sandeś).
