Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Sauraseni Apabhramsa सिरु, from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀲𑀺𑀭 (sira), from Sanskrit शिरस् (śiras). Compare with Persian سر (sar) (from Middle Persian 𐭫𐭥𐭩𐭱𐭤 (sar)) and Avestan 𐬯𐬁𐬭𐬀 (sāra). Doublet of सर (sar, head) and सिरा (sirā, beginning).
