Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Sanskrit होड (hoḍa) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀇𑀓𑀸- (-ikā-). Cognate with Konkani होडी (hoḍī) / hoddi, Gujarati હોડી (hoḍī), Marathi होडी (hoḍī), Dhivehi އޮޑި (oḍi).

  1. (regional) a small flat-bottomed boat (made of a hollowed tree)
