Learned borrowing from Sanskrit ज्योति (jyoti), a very early Prakritized form of Vedic Sanskrit द्योति (dyoti), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *dyawtiṣ, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *dyawtiš, from Proto-Indo-European *dyewtis.
