Borrowed from Sanskrit তিন্দু (tindu). Compare Odia ତିନ୍ଦୁ (tindu), Hindi तिंदु (tindu), and also तेंदू (tendū, “Cucurbita moschata or Diospyros spp.”), टिंडा (ṭiṇḍā, “apple gourd, Praecitrullus fistulosus”).
