From Portuguese dinamarquês, formed from Portuguese Dinamarca, from Danish Danmark, from Old Norse danir, from Proto-Germanic *daniz (a Dane), which is possibly from Proto-Indo-European *dʰenh₂- (run, flow) or from the same root as den (i.e. "lowland").
