Either a compound of:
- বীর (bir, “hero”) + ভূম (bhum, “land”), literally “land of heroes”, or
- Santali ᱵᱤᱨ (bir, “forest”) + ভূম (bhum, “land”), literally "forested land".
Proper noun[edit]
বীরভূম • (bīrbhūm) (objective বীরভূম (birbhum) or বীরভূমকে (birbhumke), genitive বীরভূমের (birbhumer), locative বীরভূমে (birbhume))
- Birbhum (a district of West Bengal).
