Etymology[edit]
Borrowed from Classical Persian برادر (birādar), ultimately from Proto-Indo-Iranian *bʰráHtā, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰréh₂tēr. Doublet of ভাই (bhai) and ভ্রাতা (bhrata). Cognate with Hindi बिरादर (birādar), English brother.
