From earlier বৰখুন (borokhun), from Middle Assamese 𑜈𑜦𑜡𑜍𑜥𑜁𑜥𑜃𑜫 (bo-ruu-khuun, /bo.ru.kʰun/), 𑜈𑜦𑜡𑜍𑜥𑜁𑜨𑜃𑜫 (bo-ruu-khon, /bo.ru.kʰɔn/), from Early Assamese বৰিষণ (boriṣoṇo), from বৰিষ্ (boriṣ).
