Inherited from Early Assamese সাঙ্কো (saṅkö), from Kamarupi Prakrit 𑖭𑖯𑖒𑖿𑖎𑖦 (sāṅkama), from Sanskrit সংক্ৰম (saṃkrama, going together), from Sanskrit क्रम (krama). Cognate with Sylheti ꠢꠣꠇꠝ (haxom), Chittagonian অঁঅঁঁ (õõ), Bengali সাঁকো (śãkō).
