Inherited from Old Gujarati हाट (hāṭa) (Compare Old Marwari 𑅱𑅐𑅞𑅑 (hāṭi)), from Prakrit 𑀳𑀝𑁆𑀝 (haṭṭa). Cognate to Bengali হাট (haṭ), Hindustani ہاٹ / हाट (hāṭ), Marathi हाट (hāṭ), Punjabi ہاٹ / ਹੱਟ (haṭṭ).
