Etymology[edit]

From Old Khmer ក្តិ (kti) or Angkorian Old Khmer គតិ (gati, matter, affair, case; legal matter, affair, or case; etc); ultimately from Sanskrit गति (gati, movement; progress, proceeding; etc). Cognate with Modern Khmer ក្តី (kdəy); Lao ຄະດີ (kha dī); Shan ၵတီႉ (kǎ tḭ̂i). Doublet of คติ (ká-dtì).
