From Proto-Tai *daːᴮ (river). Cognate with Isan ท่า, Lao ທ່າ (thā), Northern Thai ᨴ᩵ᩤ, Khün ᨴ᩵ᩤ, ᦑᦱᧈ (taa¹), Shan တႃႈ (tāa, pier; shallow place in water), Tai Nüa ᥖᥣ (taa), Zhuang dah (river).
