Thai[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Pali paccaya (cause; suffix; etc); possibly via Old Khmer pracai, pracaiya ((1) source of livelihood; (2) monetary support; (3) requisites for monastic life, that is, clothing, food, shelter, medicine; etc). Cognate with Modern Khmer បច្ច័យ (paccay). Compare Sanskrit प्रत्यय (pratyaya), from which Thai ปัตยัย is derived.
