Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Southwestern Tai *ʰlɔːᴮ¹ (“to cast; to melt (metal)”). Compare Middle Chinese 爐 (MC lu, “stove; furnace”); Cognate with Lao ຫຼໍ່ (lǭ), Shan လေႃႇ (làu), Ahom 𑜎𑜦𑜡 (lō).
