From Proto-Lolo-Burmese *s-nakᴴ (black), from Proto-Sino-Tibetan *s-nak (black). Cognate with Nuosu (nuo, black), Lolopo neix (black), Naxi naq, and Tibetan ནག་པོ (nag po, black).
