From Proto-Tai *liːnꟲ (tongue). Cognate with Thai ลิ้น (lín), Lao ລີ້ນ (līn), ᦟᦲᧃᧉ (liin²), Ahom 𑜎𑜢𑜃𑜫 (lin), Bouyei linx, Zhuang linx, Saek ลีน. Compare Proto-Be *liːnᴮꟲ².
