From Old Georgian ბარჯი (barǯi), from Proto-Kartvelian *ba(r)ǯ-. Cognate with Mingrelian ბორჯგი (borǯgi), Laz ბოჯგი (bocgi) and Svan ლიბაჯგე (libaǯge).
