Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from Byzantine Greek ἐσχάτη (eskhátē), the feminine of ἔσχατος (éskhatos, final, last).

Noun[edit]

ესკატი (esǩaťi) (Latin spelling esǩaťi)

  1. the money for burying the deceased, which was collected and kept by the old people in advance
  2. (Atina) the unclaimed and worthless thing left behind by a dead person, wreck, ruin
    Synonyms: ანდერი (anderi), კაჲბანა (ǩaybana)
    კაჲბანა დო ესკატი ნა დოსკუდარე
    ǩaybana do esǩaťi na dosǩudare
    May you be left with no one and nothing(curse)
  3. (Atina) ominous, sinister thing
  4. (Vizha) cross
    ესკატი მოისელუ. ნონწორე ქეკიჲონუ.
    esǩaťi moiselu. nonǯore keǩiyonu.
    The cross was removed (the Christian cross of blessing was removed from tradition). And took the wine with it.
