Etymology[edit]

From Middle Georgian მორიელი (morieli, poisonous spider, tarantula (?)). According to G. Asatur (a personal communication to Ačaṙyan), borrowed from Middle Armenian մոր (mor), մորմ (morm, a kind of poisonous spider) possibly with suffix -იელი (-ieli, type of, from the family of).
