Etymology[edit]

A Turkic borrowing, possibly from Ottoman Turkish اوتاق (otak, great tent). Compare Turkish otağ (tent) and, with similar development, Armenian օթաղ (ōtʻaġ, room, chamber). Doublet of ოდა (oda).
