- From Proto-Tungusic *pēyke.
- The Tungusic term might be akin to Proto-Mongolic *hekin (“brain, head, beginning”), compare Mongolian эх (ex, “beginning”), and also akin to Proto-Turkic *beyŋi (“brain”), compare Turkish beyin. (Can this(+) etymology be sourced?)
