From (あえ) (aegi, (れん)(よう)(けい) (ren'yōkei, stem or continuative form) of the verb (あえ) (aegu, to gasp; to pant).) + (こえ) (koe, voice). The koe changes to goe as an instance of rendaku (連濁).
