Korean[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Sino-Korean word from 丹木 (red wood), seemingly a Korean invention based on the tree's red color.

Possibly related to Middle Korean 다〯목〮 (tǎmwók, Biancaea sappan), but there is a discrepancy in tone. Compare 단〮목〮 (tánmwók), the expected Middle Korean reading of this word.
