Etymology[edit]

Sino-Korean word from 三清 + 教育 (education) + (unit). Samchung may be a reference to Samcheong-dong, where Chun Doo-hwan's Special Committee for National Security Measures (국가보위비상대책위원회 (gukga bowi bisang daechaek wiwonhoe)) was established.

Pronunciation[edit]

  • (SK Standard/Seoul) IPA(key): [ˈsʰa̠(ː)mt͡ɕʰʌ̹ŋɡjojuk̚t͈ɛ] ~ [ˈsʰa̠(ː)mt͡ɕʰʌ̹ŋɡjojuk̚t͈e̞]
  • Phonetic hangul: [(ː)/(ː)]
    • Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
