Sino-Korean word from 이북(以北) (ibuk, to the north) + 오(五) (o, five) + 도(道) (do, provinces).

  • Phonetic hangul: [(ː) (ː)]
    • Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
