Etymology[edit]

According to Jaan Puhvel, possibly related to Ancient Greek ฯ†แฟกฬฯฯ‰ (phลซฬrล, โ€œto mixโ€), because mud is a mixture of clay and water, thus both reflecting pseudo-PIE *bสฐur-u-t-.
