Etymology[edit]
Of Slavic origin. Compare Serbo-Croatian -nik, Russian -ник (-nik). Both udvar (“court”) and udvarnok (“courtier”) were loanwords. Based on these two words, the -nok suffix was formed and attached to other words.[1]
