Ahmadinejad

  1. A surname from Persian, notably borne by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Usage notes[edit]

  • The use of ⟨j⟩ as a transcription of Persian letter ژ (pronounced [ʒ]) is, strictly speaking, inaccurate: normally, the digraph ⟨zh⟩ is used in English transcriptions of this letter, ⟨j⟩ being reserved for the letter ج which is pronounced [dʒ].
  • The hyphen ⟨-⟩ in the Persian transliteration "ahmadi-nežâd" represents an invisible zero-width non-joiner between letters ی and ن, which makes the letters appear disconnected. Without it, they would appear connected (احمدینژاد).
