Switching the adjective and noun roles

Occasionally, the role of the adjective and noun in the English phrase has to be reversed in the Hungarian translation because it either sounds more natural or because the word-by-word translation would not make sense in Hungarian at all. The examples below are from literary works and were translated by professional translators.

quiet sweetness → édes nyugalom

The phrase quiet sweetness literally means nyugodt édesség which does not make sense in Hungarian. The translator switched the roles and used édes nyugalom (literally sweet quietness).

A szerelmi kapcsolat példaképét apjának és anyjának egymáshoz való házastársi ragaszkodása jelentette neki, s azt remélte, hogy egyszer majd, minden megrázkódtatás és nehézség nélkül, ő is ilyen édes nyugalomban fog élni egy szeretett lény oldalán.
