The most common words from Native American languages (one or two per major family) are, in descending order:

  • tobacco (from an Arawakan language... if not from Arabic)
  • cigarette (from a Mayan language)
  • chocolate (from a Nahuan language)
  • potato (from an Arawakan language)
  • cocaine (from a Quechuan language)
and markedly less common but still common:
  • moose (from an Algonquian language)
  • kayak (from an Eskimo-Aluet language)
  • cayenne and jaguar (from Tupian-Guaraní languages)
  • plantain (from a Cariban language)
