Validity[edit]

Appendix:Scandinavian given names was deleted because it was decided that surnames should be listed by language. Although in that case, Scandinavian represented a geographical region, while Slavic is a language family, quite a large one, too. Mglovesfun (talk) 21:15, 29 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Slavic is a language *family*, not a large language, but many languages, and not an onomasticon. This is like throwing eight onomastica together without marking any. What purpose does it serve? It is literally like having "Romance surnames" and lumping together Spanish, Italian, Romanian, and French family names. "Scandinavian" does not represent a geographical region, but is a subset of the Germanic language family. It has several closely related onomastica, but does not include the Finnish or Sami names in that region, and properly it would include Icelandic and Danish names, which are not on the Scandinavian Peninsula. So that is not a valid argument against deleting this garbage can of a list.141.239.177.153 18:23, 29 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
