Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from Georgian ასომთავრული (asomtavruli, capital letters), from ასო (aso, letter, type) + მთავარი (mtavari, main, chief, principal, head).

  1. One of three forms of the Georgian alphabet. Asomtavruli, a monumental script, is the oldest form of the Georgian alphabet, but it is no longer used for writing the language. Due to its design, it is still sometimes used for headlines and titles.
